Locked In Love

I am dipping into my archives for todays post, the first two of todays pictures were shot on the bridge across the River Neckar at Heidelberg, the last two were shot in Paris on one of the foot bridges across the Seine.

It is clear that the tradition of securing these locks is more established in Paris than in Heidelberg although those pictures were taken in spring 2015 so it is possible there are lots more now. On a subsequent visit I saw that the city council in Paris had had the locks removed in sections because of the weight and I am not sure whether there are many there now.

The End of the Rainbow

In my last post over a week ago I spoke about having lens envy and since then I have traded some of my old gear and bought a lens that I have wanted for ages, the Canon 100-400mm L series telephoto and I am so excited about it. Primarily I wanted it for my wildlife photography but it is a great all rounder and I popped down to the prom for a little while to test it out. I absolutely love the lens, it is everything I had hoped it would be and paired with a 1.4x extender I am confident that I will be able to get some great shots.

I had to shelter from a hailstorm at one point but even that didn't put me off and I was rewarded with these shots of the rainbow touching down over the container port at Seaforth.

Flying High

Stood here looking across the St Marys River towards the USA a french speaking couple asked if I knew what the building on the far side was. At the time I had no idea, there was a large old sailing ship moored nearby and I wondered if it had a military function. There is also a large freighter and so I wondered if together it was a maritime museum.

It turns out that the freighter the SS Valley Camp is a museum but the building is actually St Marys Falls Hydro Power Plant. The river has been diverted from above the locks via the Edison Sault Electric Company Canal.

However it wasn't the building that caught my attention I was really more interested in the way the early evening sunlight lit up the fountain giving it a warm glow.
