True Colours

My visit to Coningsby was finished off watching this Typhoon in its display livery. My first thought was that's pretty poor camouflage but of course for displays you want something that stands out and shows pride in Britain.

I would have liked to hang around to watch it return to the base but as I had a four hour journey home I couldn't stay. Nevertheless I am really pleased with the shots I got and I hope you have enjoyed my posts over the past few days.

Now I need to get back out there and get shooting again. Bear with...

Thumbs Up!

These shots follow on from yesterday's mini flying display, the two Qatari pilots did several low passes with landing gear down too, it genuinely seemed like they were aware of myself and the other people observing them. They also seemed to be really enjoying themselves and even though this is their day job I am sure that they get the same buzz every time they take to the sky in these incredible machines.

After landing as they taxied back to their hard standing the pilots acknowledged me with a wave and a thumbs up. Huge respect to these pilots for their skill and their commitment, if you look closely at the last image you will see the name of the second pilot, below his grinning face.

Kicking Up A Storm

The storm in question... A Typhoon.

I recently travelled to Lincolnshire, where I once lived, with the intention to visit relatives, buy some sausages and to capture so images of the fast jets stationed at RAF Coningsby.

The trip was successful on all three counts, it was great to see family, the sausages are delicious and the jets were amazing. I will have lots of pictures of the jets in action to share over the next few days.

I had watched the Eurofighter Typhoon in these pictures do a fly past and land and in these pictures it is being readied for another flight. It was interesting to watch the ground crew going through the post flight and pre flight routines. I was also really pleased to capture a shot as another plane took off in the background as I think this makes for a dramatic image.

Reach For The Sky

Today's shot is of a Typhoon flying past. This was at Coningsby last February.

I am hoping that in the coming week I will get down to Wales to get some shots of fast jets doing the Mach Loop. Wish me luck.

Defence of the Realm Two

Four more shots of the Eurofighter Typhoon for you today.

I could have stayed for hours watching and waiting but I had to call it a day and head home and I had just packed all my gear away when two jets flew back in to land.  I watched them come in and expected them to taxi left as they had done the previous day but then I saw them turn right so I quickly scrambled to get my camera and insert the battery just in time to get this last shot of Sqn Ldr Bond as he returned to base and looked for a free parking space. Shot through the perimeter fence it seems to frame the cockpit really well.

Defence of the Realm

Today's shots from my recent visits to Coningsby are of the Eurofighter Typhoon, which is a technological masterpiece and is the world's most advanced swing role combat aircraft.

The weather/light conditions weren't great to be honest and of course these magnificent machines were passing at terrific speed so getting a good shot was a challenge. I hope you like what I have posted today, tomorrow I will have a few last shots of these planes to share...

Fast Jets

I had been driving past RAF Coningsby one day and saw the ground crew at work preparing some of the Typhoons for take off so I stopped to watch for a while and as I patiently watched through the perimeter fence a couple of F-15's flew past.  It was difficult to get a decent shot because of their speed, the distance from me and the fact that I wasn't well prepared.  All the same I am pretty pleased with the top picture.

The next two images show a couple of the Typhoons flying in formation, again they could be better focused however I really like these pictures.
