Goose

This was one of the first images I captured on my morning visit to Brockholes. I had been watching a couple of Brown Hares nearby when I spotted this greylag goose through the reeds, enjoying the early  morning sun. It was sitting so calm and serene and I think this image sums up how I felt in that moment with the sun on my back and total calm all around me.

Looking at in now I am also drawn in by the warm layers of colour (which actually are misleading because it was pretty cold at just 3C or 37F).

Loosey Goosey

It seems a long time since I have been outside with my camera, at least 10 weeks I think and while I have had some fun getting creative with macro photo projects in the meantime I have been desperate to get outdoors.

I have been going out in the evenings for a walk a few times a week but I haven't taken my camera with me and that has been tough.

Yesterday I took a walk to a nearby pond, that I had forgotten was even there. I enjoyed being out, surrounded by the sounds of birdsong and although there wasn't much to photograph I made friends with this cahp and he was happy to pose for me.

Wind Your Neck In...

Canada Geese are a fairly common sight on lakes and ponds, and for that reason we probably take them somewhat for granted and don't pay them much attention but they are really quite beautiful.

I was watching this one preening and I marvelled at how flexible its neck is.

As humans we have 7 vertebrae in our necks, the same number as Giraffe but geese have between 17 and 23 and that is why they can twist and turn so much.
