View from the Lake

So today's images were taken on Lac d'Annecy. We took a boat cruise along the length of the lake from a jetty on the edge of the town.

As you can see it was dull and overcast and it was very windy but that made for  quite a dramatic image, especially with the Chateau de Duingt in the foreground. This is a private residence but I believe there are tea rooms there and the venue is used for concerts and weddings.

The peninsula which houses the Chateau was once an island and has been occupied for 1000 years and was the site of a medieval fortress known as Chateauvieux. If you visit https://chateaudeduingt.fr you will discovery more of the history of the place as well as find some beautiful photos captured when the weather conditions were more favourable.

The third image was one of just a handful of wildlife pictures I took on the road trip and is of a Red Crested Pochard. It is probably quite easy to tell how it got its descriptive name.

Doxey Pool

Here is another shot from my day out at The Roaches in Staffordshire. I originally posted this picture in June 2016 but looking back at that image I think it looks a bit flat so I have reworked it to bring out the qualities that I saw on the day.

I like the reflections of the rocks and cotton grass in the pool, I love the shape of the rocks as they lean lazily away from the viewer and I like the layers of cloud that bring the image together.

I really like this image and I am glad that I have revisited it and brought out the best in it.

World Heritage Site

A little while ago I was asked if I had any pictures of the Liverpool waterfront and I realised that I didn't so this weekend I went down to the riverside to practice getting some shots of the skyline. The sky was really overcast, it was very windy and it was bitterly cold so far from ideal conditions but I think the clouds make a dramatic backdrop.

The skyline along Liverpool's waterfront have changed dramatically over the past 20 yearsor so with the development of high rise hotels and apartments, the museum of Liverpool and the Open Eye Gallery, modern architecture contrasting with the elegance of the famous "three graces".

I will be going back to take more pictures another day, but hopefully when conditions are a bit brighter.
