Little Blue
This little Blue Tit is just so cute. I was recently talking to a friend about how so many of our native birds lack colour when compared to lots of exotic species from around the world and yet when you look at some of the pictures I have posted in the past week, of Gold Finches, Lapwings, the Great Spotted Woodpecker and this little beauty today perhaps our birds are not so dull after all.
These birds are seem so delicate and small and yet they live outside in the harsh wet and cold as well as coping with the heat in summer showing that they are really quite hardy.

Bandit
The Nuthatch is one of my favourite bird table visitors. Perhaps that is unfair because I like so many of our native and migrant species but there is something special about the nuthatch with its sleek lines and the mask around its eyes, I also really like the way it clings and creeps around the trunks of trees.

Birdsong
Early this morning I visited Mere Sands Wood with the intention of photographing wildfowl and even hoped to get a glimpse of the elusive Bittern (sadly it remained elusive). Shortly after I arrived I was serenaded by this beautiful Robin. I was really pleased to capture him mid song.

Woodland Birds
When I am out in the woods I very often struggle to see the birds because I am colour blind so looking up into the tree tops I am sure that I miss a great deal in spite of their beautiful plumage... However I managed to capture this lovely Great Tit as it took a brief pause on its flight through the trees.
The Nuthatch is one of my favourite woodland birds, I like the orange and grey of its feathers and I like the black mask giving something of the appearance of a bandit. This little bird was visiting a cache of seeds in a small hollow in the tree trunk. It was quite difficult to get a steady shot in low light conditions as he was constantly on the move but I don't think these are too bad.

Nuthatch
This is one of my favourite birds. The nuthatch is quite a bold and friendly little bird. It almost seems like this one was sat posing for the camera but really it was constantly looking round for grubs and insects, it was always on the move, so it took some patience getting these shots
