Pen Yr Ole Wen

I love this view of pen yr ole wen on the right looking along the Ogwen valley towards Anglesey in the distance.

This is the seventh highest mountain in Wales at 978m or 3,178 feet.

A Cottage by the Sea

Today's shots were taken at Porth Nobla near Rhosneigr on the west coast of Anglesey.

I had just parked up to go down onto the beach when I saw the neat rows of freshly planted potatoes. I am used to seeing the straight lines like this in the fields around Lincolnshire where I lived through some of my teenage years.  But in the Lincolnshire fens the fields are totally flat unlike the field in this picture. I like the precision of the planted rows and I also like the way they rise up towards the skyline.

The next picture is of one of the small cottages overlooking the small bay which was also home to a colony of Sand Martins which I enjoyed watching as they flew around catching flies to feed their hungry chicks.

Is This a Sleeping Giant

Obviously the title for today's post relates to just the first picture. Later this year I will be going to Canada and for some of the time will be camping with friends in Sleeping Giant National Park. Last weekend I discovered that North Wales has it's own Sleeping Giant as can be seen in the first shot which is of the tip of Anglesey as seen from the beach at Gyrn Goch.

The next three pictures are focused on a group of three rocks but from slightly different viewpoints. I like the sheen on the rocks, I like the motion in the water and the soft colours in the sky. These pictures were taken just after the sun had finally dipped below the horizon giving a pinky glow.

Messing about in boats

Today I have a few more pictures from Anglesey, these were taken at Red Wharf Bay which as you can see is a peaceful setting in a sheltered bay. On Saturday afternoon there were several people busy at work readying their boats for sea.  They caught my eye and I thought they were good subjects for my blog .

The third picture is a little abstract, the sea was really very calm but a couple of people came into the bay on jet skis, clearly having a blast and kicking up quite a swell. I have tried to capture the motion of the waves, let me know in the comments below if you think it works for you...

Britannia Bridge

Four more pictures from Anglesey today.  The first is the Britannia Bridge taken from a vantage point on Church Island. I like the gorse in the foreground and the wide expanse of "The Swellies" looking towards the bridge in the distance.

The second picture I have chosen because this weekend marks the 70th anniversary of VE day and the monument commemorates the local men and women who lost their lives during the first and second world wars.

The third picture is of a cluster of Bluebells which were growing in abundance in the churchyard of St Tsyilio's church.  I love the vivid blue colour as it stands out against the fresh green background of lush grass.

I also love the vibrant green of the new foliage in the final picture as it forms a canopy above the woodland floor.

I hope you have enjoyed today's selection.  Look out for more from Anglesey tomorrow.

Menai Strait

Today could be a real milestone for me and this blog as I expect to reach/pass 10,000 page views since I started in September last year. I am really pleased that so many people have taken time to view my pictures over that time, from the UK, USA, Canada, all across Europe, Ghana, South Africa, UAE, South Korea, Australia, Russia and Ukraine and many more.  I can scarcely believe how far my pictures have gone around the world and it inspires me to keep going.

Today I have been out to Anglesey in North Wales and taken some more pictures a selection of which I will share over the next few days; starting today with images of the two bridges which connect the island to the mainland, the older more ornate Menai Bridge and the Britannia Bridge which span a stretch of water known as "The Swellies".

It was quite overcast at times today but I think the cloudy skies add atmosphere to the images.  I hope you agree and enjoy this selection of photos.

Keep coming back to enjoy more pictures and if you like what you see please share them with friends.
