On The Rocks
Here are a few more shots from my morning in Snowdonia. I would normally post landscape images in colour and certainly there is a good case for the second shot to be in colour but the other two I think work well in black and white and so I decided to stick with B&W for all three. I have some lovely colour shots which I will share in a day or two.

Seaside Scenes
So I know that the second of today's images is a bit like a holiday postcard but I wanted to share it because it follows on from the first picture which is of a fresh water spring which was bursting out from the cliff and really took me by surprise as I was walking along the beach.
It was pouring out at such a rate that it has carved out a pool in the sand and then as you can see from the second picture it flows out to the sea as quite a wide river, cutting a course through the beach and in places it was quite deep everyone who was walking the beach, from either direction was forced to turn back as the river blocked their path.
This is an interesting feature though because when the tide comes in the whole beach is covered and the river effectively disappears and then as the tide goes out the river starts afresh.
In the distance you can just about make out Criccieth castle and further in the distance the hills on the Lleyn Peninsula. You can also see the snow clouds building on the right reminding me at least of how bitterly cold it was in spite of the sun.

Standing Tall
So here are a few more pictures of the pebble stacks that I built with my boys down in Betws y Coed last weekend. Each one got slightly taller than the last, or if not taller it had more stones. The final one in today's selection was 13 stones (14 if you count the boulder it was built on) You might think that with flat pebbles it would be quite easy to get them balanced but it is not and try as I might I couldn't get an extra stone on the last stack.
I have a few more cool shots to share over the next few days so if you like these come back tomorrow...

Rock and River
I suffered to get these pictures, I have so many bites from the midges, on my arms, legs and face and a nice big bruise on my arm from when I slipped on the rock but regardless of all that I had loads of fun down by the river building these stacks and finding the best angle to photograph them.
These shots were taken on the banks of Afon Llugwy just below the Miners Bridge at Betws y Coed in North Wales. It is a great place to visit, a nice easy walk and some lovely scenery. I love the sound of the river just below the waterfalls and I love the shapes, colours and textures of the pebbles.
I have some more pictures to share over the coming days and hope you will come back to have a look.

Starburst
It was a sunny morning in Caernafon and these boats were lined up along Afon Seiont next to the magnificent castle. It was such a restful scene.
Although the sun was shining, there was quite a breeze and it was actually quite chilly but even so it was a lovely spot.

Is This a Sleeping Giant
Obviously the title for today's post relates to just the first picture. Later this year I will be going to Canada and for some of the time will be camping with friends in Sleeping Giant National Park. Last weekend I discovered that North Wales has it's own Sleeping Giant as can be seen in the first shot which is of the tip of Anglesey as seen from the beach at Gyrn Goch.
The next three pictures are focused on a group of three rocks but from slightly different viewpoints. I like the sheen on the rocks, I like the motion in the water and the soft colours in the sky. These pictures were taken just after the sun had finally dipped below the horizon giving a pinky glow.

Spring Is Springing
Last Saturday was particularly cold but at least it was dry so I took the opportunity to visit Erddig near Wrexham in North Wales. It is a fine stately home with a reputation that the servants of the household were highly valued and well treated by the home owners.
There are lovely formal and informal gardens at Erddig but because of the intense cold I didn't spend too much time outside. I did however see these hopeful signs of spring in these lovely catkins and crocus.and couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a few shots to share with you.
