Milky White

Three more pictures of the falls at Tom Gill, today we are at the upper levels of the falls and the final picture is just a series of fairly shallow drops very close to the top. I really like this image and have a similar one as the wallpaper on my phone at the moment.

The first and second picture are of exactly the same section of the falls as if you needed me to tell you that. I have taken them using different exposures to create different effects with the water. I really like the first one with the water appearing as milky streaks, but I know that some people prefer a more naturalistic look and so in the second one with a faster shutter speed that is what you get. Whatever your preference I hope there is something in today's selection to float your boat!

Cascades

Here are two more sections of the cascades and waterfalls at Tom Gill.  With all of the heavy rainfall recently there was lots of water and as you can see it was quite a spectacle. I particularly like the section of the falls in the first two pictures but  I have included the third shot because of the height of the falls which was an unexpected sight.

A River Runs Through...

Walking through the forest I was drawn downhill by the sound of running water, not a steady trickle but a thunderous roar of the cascades that you can see in the first three pictures. I don't know the name of the river but this spot is marked on the map as "Force" and nearby is "Force Forge Farm" which I believe at one time was a mill powered by the river.

The volume of water passing through was incredible and the noise was so loud, it drowned out the sound of cars passing on the nearby road.

Getting the second and third pictures was a little tricky as I had to lean against a tree slightly overhanging the river and wedge my feet into the tangle of roots to prevent a tumble into the deluge.  It was a great experience though, being so close to such a force.  I also saw something I had never seen before (except on nature documentaries) and that was a fish, a trout I think, leaping up the falls. I waited a while to see if I would see more but unfortunately I didn't but it was great just to see the one.

Walking further upstream the river moved at a more leisurely pace and the noise was much less and as you can see from the final two images it was a much more peaceful scene. As calming as this was I preferred the drama of the falls.

Making a Splash

I was going to post a picture of a cascade from a mountain stream for today but even though it was a good picture it wasn't that special. However when I  looked closer I saw the bright spots of light and the swirls in the water which create these wonderful abstract images.

More Views of Y Garn

Two more views of Y Garn today and the final image of the stream which flows from Llyn Idwal down to Llyn Ogwen here as it cascades at the bottom of the valley.

It was a beautiful day and so the blue sky helps to frame the mountains and scenery. I loved being here and I hope you can enjoy this beautiful landscape from the pictures above.
