Well Ain't That Grand...

So just a few more pictures from Venice to follow on from my last post but today instead of streets I have chosen some of the waterways. The first three images are views of the Grand Canal while the final shot is of one of the smaller canals hidden away in the heart of the city.

The only way to get around Venice apart from on foot is by some form of boat; water taxi, Vaporetto or Gondola or one of the barges that delivers goods, removes refuse etc. There are no cars and even bicycles are banned.

Tram Lines

One of the things I enjoyed about visiting different cities was finding out about the transportation systems. In Copenhagen the metro was a driver less system that was brand new and super efficient, whereas in Gothenburg the trams were almost all very old and creaky with absolutely loads of character.

In these pictures you can see two different styles of tram in Prague, both are quite old and sadly we didn't get to ride on any. Instead we used the metro (see my post from 22/07) to get into the city and then we walked everywhere and I mean we walked miles but at least that we way we didn't miss anything along the way.

Although these shots are in Black & White you can see that it was a hot day with mostly clear blue sky and you can see some of the fine architecture in this old city. Such a wonderful place to visit.

Bridges of Amsterdam

In a couple of weeks time I will be embarking on a much anticipated European road-trip with my eldest son.  We have been planning it for the past two years and now it is about to start it seems almost unbelievable. We will be visiting some places for the very first time and revisiting some old favourites.  Of course there will be lots of photo opportunities and hopefully lots of things to share in my blog.

The first stop along the way will be Amsterdam.  I have been lucky enough to visit a couple of times before and so I decided to share a few pictures from my last visit.  Today I have chosen some pictures of the canals and bridges (If I remember correctly the first picture is  a street/canal called Singel and the second image shows a stretch of Prinsengracht).  Over the next couple of days I will post a few more shots of the city.
