Slow It Down

There is a quiet spot just next to the Ponte dell'Accademia in Venice which offers a fantastic view along the Grand Canal towards the lagoon. Surprisingly there were no other people there, most preferring top stop on the bridge itself and look along the canal in either direction. To be fair the views from the bridge are great too but to capture o long exposure like these shots would not be possible during the day with so many people passing by.

I know these are all fairly similar but I have used slightly different exposure times and I have tried to incorporate the passing boats in some of the shots and I hope you will agree that the effect works well.

Well Ain't That Grand...

So just a few more pictures from Venice to follow on from my last post but today instead of streets I have chosen some of the waterways. The first three images are views of the Grand Canal while the final shot is of one of the smaller canals hidden away in the heart of the city.

The only way to get around Venice apart from on foot is by some form of boat; water taxi, Vaporetto or Gondola or one of the barges that delivers goods, removes refuse etc. There are no cars and even bicycles are banned.

Rialto Bridge

This abstract view of the Rialto Bridge reflected in Venice's Grand Canal was the last picture I captured on my recent trip to the city. It wont be the last one I share though as I still have some wonderful images to share, and hopefully very soon I will also have some exciting news.

The bridge spans the grand canal and is a popular spot to shop or to stand and take in the magnificent view and the atmosphere of the city. I love the way the lights from the bridge stretch out in coloured pillars creating loops, whorls and curls, the white light reflected in the middle almost looks like a fingerprint.

On The Grand Canal

This is an iconic view from Venice. Early evening with the winter sun setting off to the left and a lone Gondolier plying his trade along the Grand Canal.

In February Venice is not as busy as during the summer months and on previous visits I have seen this stretch of the canal literally heaving with Gondolas weaving between the Vaporetto, pleasure boats and traders.
