Tiger Stripes

I have no idea what this plant is, possibly a fern but I have done a bit of research and come up blank. If you know then please enlighten me...

I liked it for its lush leaves and the stripes on the under surface. I also like the way the light is shining through the leaves.

I like to see bold colours in the garden but often lush green is just as stunning.

Venetian Cafe Culture

I really like the first three images today. They were captured as I walked around the back streets and alleys of Venice early during the evening. Away from the crowds you can get a sense of the city behind the tourist spots and I think this is shown off really well in these three photos.

These are in stark contrast with the more opulent setting in the final image which was captured in St Mark's Square where the diners were being serenaded; each of the restaurants had its own pavilion as you can see here with a mini orchestra in full swing.

I know it looks lush but I would choose the back street bars and cafes over this any day...

Green And Pleasant Land

I have decided to share a landscape shot today. I know that not everyone likes landscapes but I like the way this one of Hawthornthwaite Fell in Lancashire. I like the way the shot is framed by the tree in the top corner and I like the shadows of the clouds across the fell and of the tree on the field which give the picture different layers and depth. I also love the fresh shades of green.

This was the fell (alongside Nicky Nook Fell) which overlooked the campsite where I stayed for a couple of nights last week. I needed a break away and this was just what needed.

New Growth

I have always liked photographing ferns as they emerge, I love the way they unfurl from such tight little buds to form such lush plants. I love the richness of the colours in this shot too.

Waterfall

Today I am going back to July 2011 for this shot of Torc Waterfall in County Kerry in the Republic of Ireland. It was one of the few moments during my week in Ireland that it wasn't raining. It was a nice walk up to the waterfall, I love the colours and the atmosphere in this shot.

Towneley Hall

These pictures of Towneley Hall, in Burnley show the lovely architecture. The house is set in beautiful grounds which since 1902 have been a public park, and the first shot shows a superb reflection of the house in the reflecting pool in one of the more secluded corners of the formal garden. There are some great flower beds, quite walks around the wild garden and the house itself is a museum so all in all its well worth a visit.

I love the colour of the stonework and the ivy is a lush green however I have chosen to show the final picture in black and white because I think it works well.
