On Alert

Continuing the cuteness from yesterday's post here are a couple of shots of some Meerkats. They always seem to be so watchful and on high alert which adds to their charm I think.

I have again chosen some black and white images  and although black and white can sometimes seem quite cold I think these two shots are really quite warm and with the light and shadows you get a sense that it was actually a nice sunny day.

Sun Worshipper

It was really cold at the end of my day at the zoo, in spite of the cloudless sky and bright sun so I was really glad that I had gone prepared and was wrapped up nice and warm.

My last stop of the day was to see the meerkats and they were all out, sat on the highest ground to capture the last rays of the day and what little warmth it offered. It meant that they were still enough, for long enough to get some nice shots.

Whose Shadow?

You may have noticed that I haven't posted anything for a week, what with Christmas and various other things on my mind I just haven't got round to it.  So I thought that I would start up again with a little puzzle.

Can you work out whose shadows you are looking at in this picture?

Of course, it's a couple of meerkats soaking up the last of the days' sunshine. It really was very cold out there today so you can hardly blame them. They're just so cute. I have a few more pictures of them to share among some of the other creatures I snapped this afternoon so come back and have a look over the coming days.

Chilling with my homies

I went to Williamson Park to visit the butterfly house (more of that tomorrow) and I wasn't expecting to find a selection of small mammals as well. There were a number of rabbits and guinea pigs but by far the most fun creatures were the meerkats.

I think they are really cute and the only thing that would make these pictures better would be a soundtrack of meerkat chatter.
