Whitby Harbour

I recently managed a very brief break from everything and I headed over to Whitby on the Yorkshire coast.

It is some time since I was last there but each visit has some good memories attached and this was no different. It was a really hot and sunny day so landscape photography wasn't really on the cards but as evening approached the light changed and there were some great photo opportunities.

Whitby is built along the banks of the River Esk as it flows into the North Sea and the sunlight and reflections made for some nice images, I hope you will agree.

Sun Worshipper

It was really cold at the end of my day at the zoo, in spite of the cloudless sky and bright sun so I was really glad that I had gone prepared and was wrapped up nice and warm.

My last stop of the day was to see the meerkats and they were all out, sat on the highest ground to capture the last rays of the day and what little warmth it offered. It meant that they were still enough, for long enough to get some nice shots.

Down to the Horizon

So I know that all of the above pictures are very similar but I wanted to show the sequence of the sun going down over the Irish Sea. I was sat on a rock on the beach at Gyrn Goch just watching as the golden orb of the sun slowly set and disappeared from view.

I love the colour in the sky and the patterns of the clouds.

If you look really closely you will just make out the very last glimpse of the sun in the final picture in the series. It is just below the "C" of Chipster63.

These are the last of my pictures from that evening on the beach, tomorrow and over the coming few days I will be posting pictures from the next morning in Caernafon and Anglesey so come back for those...

Gold on the Water

As the sun went down the sky turned from pinky blue to rich golden yellow setting the sea on fire with golden reflections.

It was so relaxing to watch the sun sinking down towards the horizon.
