The Sun and The Moon

I took these shots across the lake early one morning as the sun was rising behind the Sleeping Giant. There was a chill in the air but there was barely a breeze so there was hardly a ripple on the lake.

I love the golden light in these shots it was a perfect start to the day.

As the day begins night ends and as I was watching the sunrise the moon was still high in the sky behind me.  It seems so odd with such a contrast between the golden sky over the lake and the cool blue cloudless sky over Mission Marsh

Evening Sun

So tonight I am sharing a selection of pictures captured using my mobile phone.

I had gone for a walk after dinner to try and clear my head after a couple of stressful days. It was quite cool due to the strong wind but the scenery was beautiful as the sun was setting across Liverpool Bay and although I was walking quite fast I couldn't ignore the wonderful views and it certainly helped to release some of the stress.

I'm so lucky to live so close to the sea and we get a lot of fantastic sunsets just like this.

Walking away from the seafront I noticed the moon reflecting the last of the sunlight creating what I think is a pink and blue sky. I know that I may very well be wrong about the colours but whatever the colours this is a beautiful sky and a beautiful end to my day.

Two Moons

Today's offering is two shots of the moon at different times of the evening. The first was obviously earlier in the evening. There is no filter, the sky was really that blue.

I enjoy taking pictures of the moon, it presents a number of challenges and takes some practice getting it right. I will keep practicing.

Heavenly Bodies

I always like taking shots of the moon, it has a magical appeal and last weekend it was really bright and clear so while out at Bolton Abbey for my camping trip I couldn't resist taking this shot. It was hand held and it was very windy so I didn't get the sharpest image, and so I need some more practice. All the same it's not too bad.

I had hoped to get some nice shots of the night sky but as you can see the moon was very bright so although there wasn't a cloud in the sky the starts weren't as prominent as I had hoped although in the second of today's picture Jupiter is shining brightly in spite of the moon.

Walking around Bolton Abbey after dark (particularly by the cemetery proved to be quite spooky and so although I got a couple of shots I didn't hang around too long.

I have another trip to the area planned for next weekend with two of my kids and I am hoping for two things; a clear but moonless sky and an accomplice who will not get spooked when we go down to the abbey and maybe I will stay around a bit longer and get some better pictures to share. Wish me luck.

Birthday Moon

Yesterday there was a brilliant full moon and a clear sky (apart from a few wispy clouds) and so I thought I would try out a few shots. In the past when I have taken pictures of the moon I have never quite got the settings right and when I enlarge the images they appear grainy. This time however I think I have got it just about right and I think these are the best moon shots I have taken and definitely worth sharing. I love the detail in these pictures and I think the wispy clouds add some atmosphere (pun intended!).

A Yellow Moon

The other day my eldest son text me as he was leaving work to say have a look at the moon.  I know I have posted pictures of the moon before but I couldn't resist taking a few more shots.

There was a bit of cloud around it forming a bit of a halo which you can see in the first picture.  Unfortunately I couldn't get the cloud and the detail in the moon in the same shot, I am sure there must be a way but I don't know how.

The second picture shows the moon in its full glory and shows off the yellow colour which was what prompted my son to call me in the first place. I'm so glad he did because I am really pleased with this shot.

I Give You The Moon

I've tried taking pictures of the moon before but now with my new lens I will be able to get some much better images than previously.  The picture above was taken on Saturday evening, the last time we had a cloud free sky.  It was taken hand held too so perhaps isn't as sharp as it could have been but its good enough.  I am sure that I will take a few more in the weeks and months ahead, as long as we have some clear skies.
