With all the cold grey weather recently I thought I would go back to some summer colour to brighten things up.
Today high definition images of the surface of the sun have been released and they were quite amazing but I think the golden centre of a flower is just the thing to bring some warmth
and sunshine when the real thing is hidden behind layers of cloud.
These magnificent ornamental railings surround the Heldenplaz in Vienna and in the background is the Hofburg Palace residence of the President of Austria (who we saw later that day welcoming Vladimir Putin).
I like these two different views but i prefer the second image because of the detail and also because of the slightly out of focus image of the statue in the background.
As winter approaches you don't really expect to see brightly coloured flowers but on Thurstaston Common lit up by the rising sun I found this beautiful gorse in full bloom. I am always surprised by how delicate the flowers are compared to the violently spiky foliage.
