The Forest

So the first of today's pictures is looking out across the forest from a vantage point above Wolf River, you can just make out part of the river as it flows towards Wolf Lake. although the sky was fairly overcast (heavy rain followed not long after) the colours of the forest stand out as they announce the start of autumn.

With the changing season there is also a profusion of fungi along the forest floor and so the second image showcases a couple of different species growing next to a decaying stump.

I have photographed lots of different fungi during my trip so far and will be posting more in the near future.

Autumnal City

There is a definite feel of autumn as the evenings get dark much earlier, the mornings are starting to become frosty and of course the leaves are falling from the trees.

Even in a big city like London that feeling is still there. There are lots of green spaces where colours have changed and the trees are looking bare.

On my walk to work I pass a book/gift shop. It is the Mother's Union shop in Mary Sumner House and the autumn themed window display caught my eye. I love the cascading leaves and it looks really effective lit up at night.

The second of today's pictures was taken on my walk back along Victoria Embankment and again I think there is an autumnal feel, with the lighting, the trees of course the leaves on the ground and the couple wrapped in warm coats.

Autumnal Colours

Autumn is a great time to capture the fantastic colours all around as the season changes and we move closer to winter. A walk in the woods at this time of year presents a riot of greens, yellows, oranges and shades of brown and just about everything in between.

Recently at Dunham Massey I took a few pictures of the fallen leaves. In the first of today's images I thought it would look most striking in monochrome making the pale leaf stand out in stark contrast to the dark and leathery background.

In the second shot I have used a selective colour technique (something I have had fun experimenting with before) to really bring out the rich and vibrant colours of the fallen leaves.

I think both techniques work really well and I love both of these images, I hope that you do too.
