Silver Reflection
I love black and white photography and this superb shot of Skiddaw and Derwent Water is a good example of why I love it so much.
Landscapes don't always lend themselves to black and white because the colours are usually really important. In this image the sky was a beautiful blue and the snowy fells a brilliant white (have a look at the picture I posted on 27th January to see what I mean) so it would look great as a colour image too. However it also works exceptionally well in black and white with the shiny reflection and the crisp lines.

Ripples And Reflections
Following on from my tunnel reflections yesterday I have gone for this abstract image from further along the canal.
It may look just like a random reflection but from a certain point of view you can see that it is the reflection of a narrowboat and you can make out the windows and a splash of colour from the blue paintwork.

Snowy Fells
I have chosen just one picture for today, this superb view across Derwent Water to the snowy peak of Causey Pike. I would have preferred less movement in the water so there was a sharper reflection but in spite of that there is a lot to like in this picture. I really like the colour of the sky with the promise of more snow, I like the wispy cloud blowing across the top of the fell and I like the layers of light and dark throughout the image.
It is almost a year since I was last in the lake district so I was happy to be there after such a long break and I was glad that the conditions gradually improved as the day wore on. I am constantly thankful to live in such a beautiful country with so many wonderful sights within easy reach and as much as I enjoy my job I am always looking forward to my next opportunity to get out into the countryside.

Snowdon Reflection
Today I went out to Snowdonia with my daughter. Our intention was to walk part way up Snowdon but there were so many people there it wasn't really appealing so we went to Tryfan instead. It was really cold, the sky was beautifully clear and the light was perfect so I think I got some great shots.
This was the first shot I took today testing the settings and it was still set for monochrome, all the other shots I took today were in colour but I thought this works really well so I decided to post it before going through some of my other favourite shots of today.
This is just a small lake with a reflection of Snowdon (the mountain in the background)

Superior Reflection
Following on from yesterdays driftwood art on the beach at Neys Provincial Park here is another shot from the beach of a really cool reflection in a nice calm inlet . There was actually quite a strong breeze and the surface of the lake was fairly choppy so it was somewhat of a surprise that this small inlet was so calm. It really is a lovely spot.

A Reflecting Pond
Winter woodlands, water and reflections, all ingredients for a good walk on New Year's day. Over the next few days I will share a few pictures from the walk in Delamere Forest.
Today's pictures are quite obviously of a fallen tree and a reflection. Although the water is not deep the reflection of the standing tree in the first image creates the impression of great depth.
For those who have seen my blog before you will know that I like the distortion caused by ripples and so that is why I have chosen the second picture.
