Light Waves

At first I couldn't decide what to post today, I have some beautiful shots of a Robin that I have been wanting to share but I decided that will be for my next post and today I have chosen some abstract images.

You may have seen similar posts from me in the past and you will know that I have a fascination for the way light plays on water and the stunning images that can be created from something so simple. Next time you are by a lake, pond, canal or other body of water on a calm day take a moment to look at what is going on on the surface. Even gentle movements can create intricate patterns and the angle of the sunlight, or any light source if it is after dark will bring out the detail in what otherwise might appear a flat surface. It is always changing and by capturing a moment in time in a photograph will preserve that detail.

In each of the images above I have taken a photograph and cropped a section and adjusted the exposure and the balance to create an image that is more than was there at first sight, to bring out the subtleties of the individual ripples and reflections.

These were all captured at Burton Mere and other than the first image which is simply a reflection of the light coming through the clouds the other images are the distorted reflections of the trees around the mere.

I love these abstract images because each time you look you can see something different.

I hope that you like them but if wildlife is more for you then be sure to take a look tomorrow because I will post something that I am sure you will like.

Green and Black

I know (because I trust those that tell me) that this picture is a blend of greens but to me it looks like black and gold and rather like molten metal.

However you see it I hope you like this as much as me.

Making Waves

So not waves exactly but here is another image from my Ripples and Reflections series.

I love the way the ripples that appear so smooth viewed from a distance when seen close up have so much texture and depth of colour.

Kaleidoscope

Today is a return to something abstract. This is another shot of ripples and reflections from Burton Mere over the recent Easter weekend.

In most of the reflections shots I have taken I have used a fast shutter speed to give a smooth final image but here I have used a slightly longer exposure to create a more wispy effect. I quite like this, how about you???

Tiger Face

OK, so it might not be what you see when you look at this image but in an abstract way I think there is a tiger face hidden in the ripples.

One of the wonderful about ripples and reflections is that they reveal something unique every time you look...

All The Right Ingredients

This is so full of rich colours it is amazing to think that this is a reflection on a narrow canal tucked away in the heart of Venice.

It is a strong image and one that could so easily have been overlooked. Proof that it pays to keep your eyes peeled and there is beauty in some unexpected places.

Carnevale

Here is another Reflection of Venice.

My visit to the city was a week before the famous Carnevale when the city comes alive with people in costumes and masks and it is a non-stop round of balls and parties. I was a little disappointed to miss it but having spoken to a local shop keeper perhaps I wouldn't have enjoyed it completely. The city is packed with visitors and I think I prefer the quiet of the city as it was

I have called this photo Carnevale because when I look at it I can see lots of faces or masks and it seems fitting for the season.

How many faces can you find?

Sunny Morning Light

So if you have seen my blog recently you will know that I have been doing a series of "Reflections of Venice" and if you haven't seen them they're well worth a look.

I haven't posted anything for a couple of days so decided to come back with something bright and colourful which hopefully will catch your eye.

Blue Flame

Sometimes it is really easy to choose a picture to share, sometimes I even know days in advance what I will post here and I get impatient as each day goes by waiting to reveal the next picture.

Today however for some reason I have had a hard time reaching a decision.

This is another of my Reflections of Venice. Originally it was in a portrait orientation and I had cropped it a little tighter and while I really liked the image I wasn't 100% convinced by it. However rotating it through 90 degrees and expanding the view slightly it became a different image altogether and I love it.

I have called it "Blue Flame" because I think it does look a bit like flames only blue with white highlights. It also looks a bit like sand art and I really like the range of different shades and the different layers of light and dark.

As with all of this series of pictures there is so much going on in the image and each time you look you can see something new.

Marco Polo

Could this be a winner?

That's not for me to say but this is the image that has been selected for the Williamson Gallery Open Exhibition 2019.  I was disappointed that the image I shared yesterday wasn't selected as well but I think this was definitely the better of the two images and I am really really happy with this.

It is yet another of my Reflections of Venice series and I have titled this picture Marco Polo because it is a reflection of the exterior signage to the Margo Polo glass works on Murano.

I love the random shapes, the loops and whorls, I love the green of the water and I love the writing that draws you in.

I hope that you love this image as much as I do and I hope that it is well received by the judges and visitors to the exhibition, please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

More Reflections Of Venice

This is another of my reflections of Venice, I was sat on a jetty on the island of Murano looking across to the city of Venice and this reflection caught my eye. The bright afternoon sun lit up the posts supporting the jetty and created this lovely pattern in the rippling surface of the lagoon.

With a lot of the pictures in this series it isn't immediately obvious that you are looking at reflections or that it's water, but here there's no doubt. As with the others though each time you look you can see something different. In this one I can see a Seahorse, at least an abstract representation of one although that maybe because I love seahorses and i may be "programmed" in some way to spot them.

The Lighthouse

This cool reflection is of the Faro San Giorgio Maggiore in the last of the evening sun.

I like the transition from blue to gold to green as the reflection moves from sky to stone and then shadow.

Venetian Gold

Here is another of my series of abstract reflections.

This one was shot in Venice.

I love the liquid gold that is light reflected early morning sunlight captured between the blue on one side of the image and the green on the other.

I think it is possible to see a face in the image, maybe a face hidden behind a mask which is fitting really as this was taken while Venice was preparing for its' famous mask festival.
