For today I have chosen two panoramic shots taken with my phone's camera.
The first was taken yesterday morning when I stopped for a short break during my cycle ride along the Wirral Coastal path. The tide was just coming in I think and there were a few people out walking or running and enjoying the early morning sun. I don't think the frames have stitched together perfectly in this shot but all the same it is a terrific view looking out across Liverpool Bay towards North Wales and the Burbo Bank wind farm.
The second shot was taken this evening right at the water's edge shortly after low tide and a few hours before sunset. I have never walked out this far before (about a mile and a half) except to Hilbre Island which you may just make out on the left of the shot, and I was so glad I made the spur of the moment decision to do so. The view is fantastic and I am so glad that I live so close to the sea so I can enjoy it whenever I like.

Here are four views of the sea defences near Derby Pool. These incredible barnacle encrusted concrete structures are a really interesting feature, breaking up the shore line at low tide and breaking up the waves when the tide comes in.
Although three of the pictures offer a similar view the different lighting and slightly different viewpoint show off this magnificent structure. Tomorrow I will post a few more shots of the break water which will add a new perspective so do come back tomorrow.
As well as spending some time watching and photographing the kite surfers on Saturday I also took a number of nice shots on the beach.
Today's post then is a selection of random images from the day, a couple of landscape images of the lifeguard station with dramatic skies and a distant view of North Wales.
The second image is all about colour and texture and I really like it.
The third picture is a bit of fun and represents a day at the beach really well. This little dog was having such fun running around with his ball. However when he realised that I was taking pictures of him he dropped the ball and ran over to bark at me, ignoring the pleas of his owner until I spoke to him saying he should fetch the ball, then he ran off. I am not that keen on dogs but this little fella made me smile.
Here's a few more kite surfing shots from Saturday, looking back at all of the pictures I got I know that I need to use a faster shutter speed next time. These were taken using aperture priority and in AI Servo mode. Next time I will use shutter priority with a much quicker shutter speed so hopefully will get much crisper images.
As well as the kite surfing I did take some landscape shots and some other candid pictures on the beach so over the next few days I will share some of them, so do come back and take a peek...
The watery theme continues although when I started out today I had no idea what I would be posting. The weather this morning was dreadful and I didn't think I would get a chance to get any new pictures at all. After lunch though things started looking up and I set out with my camera and as I was driving along near New Brighton I caught a glimpse of these kite surfers on Derby Pool. The wind was pretty strong and these guys were getting some high speeds and literally flying at times, it was really impressive and I will be keeping my eyes open for more opportunities like this.
I have never tried taking shots like these before but I think I have managed to get a few decent pictures and I will share a few more over the next few days along with some of the other shots from my afternoon on the beach.

After the difficult birds in flight yesterday I have picked some much easier shots for today.
You could think that these three birds were actually posing for these photos.

I thought I would try my hand at photographing birds in flight with my new lens and I knew it would be tricky so decided to start with something large and I figured that seagulls would be a good place to start.
I have often seen the birds along the prom hovering or making slow passes and it seemed to me that it would be quite straightforward to get some decent shots.
Of course it wasn't straightforward at all and more often than not the birds had shot past before I could focus properly. I can see that I am going to need to practice a lot more however I think these are not bad for a first attempt.

More pictures from by the shore. Again I have chosen to shoot in black and white because I think the sun reflecting off the silt is more effective in black and white than in colour.
I Iove boats and I love being by the sea. I have been lucky because nearly all my life I have lived close to the sea and I love the smell of sea air in the morning.

The pictures today are of some of the birds that regularly visit Hilbre Island. I wasn't able to get as close as I would have liked and all of the above pictures were taken using a Tamron 70 - 300mm telephoto lens at 300mm.
Pictures 1, 2 and 4 are (I think) of Barnacle Geese, picture 3 are Knot and picture 5 is of Oyster Catchers. My favourite shots are pictures 3 & 4, let me know which you like best in the comments below.
Today's images were taken at the same time as those in yesterday's blog. They are at Meols Shore which is part of the Wirral Coastal Path. Early evening is a great time for photography as the light is often just right. I particularly like the third of today's photos although it would probably be better without the mast. I also like the way the light is catching on the lifebouy in the final picture.
