So these are a couple of shots of the Wolf River Falls. It was an amazing spot and the falls are so impressive.
I have included a person in the first image to give a sense of perspective and . I also wanted to get a shot from behind the falls and I think this is pretty cool although with all of the spray it was impossible to get a really sharp image. I thought an umbrella might have helped but the spray was coming from all angles as the wind was blowing towards me and the force of the water hitting the rock at the bottom was throwing lots of spray upwards.
Getting to the falls was a real adventure having to scramble down a steep path through the forest and then with the help of a rope carefully walk backwards down a muddy slope to the bottom. It was so worth it though!
Although this wasn't taken today I think the conditions would have been about right for this type of activity.
I like this action shot and I chose it for today because recently there have been news stories about surfers so it seemed topical.
So I have finally got around to some of the pictures of waterfalls from Ingleton. I have some nice shots of the cascades and of Thornton Force but while watching the first of the main falls (Pecca Falls) I decided to experiment with different shutter speeds to capture the spray at the edge of the main falls. By using a shutter speed of 1/80 or 1/100 I found that it got the effect I wanted with the droplets having the appearance of shooting stars or the flying sparks of fireworks. I am really pleased with these pictures and hope you will be too.
In 2011 I took a holiday in County Kerry in Ireland, more precisely on the Dingle Peninsula . The weather while we were away was pretty dull for most of the time, but on the one fine day I got these shots near Castlegregory, the first is taken looking towards Camp and Tralee, the second is a view of Brandon Mountain. I had a good time clambering over the rocks and dodging the spray.
The road over the mountain to Dingle on the opposite side of the peninsula was quite a hair raising drive in very poor conditions, not something I would do again except in very good weather.
Over the next few days I will select a few more pictures from the trip.
